Our Video
Contest was a big hit in 2007 so
we've decided to do it again!
 Solmar
V is celebrating it's 17th year visiting the Socorro Islands.
We've had more than 10,000 guests onboard. We have more
experience
there than anyone else!
This year's conest entries should
reflect
this message.
If you've
been
on the boat many, many years ago and
have videos of photos showing the boat, crew, or the islands,
or know someone who does, you've
got
the makings
of a winning video! You can tell the story with titles,
narration, illustration...be creative! You can include
the above logo if you wish (click for a higher res version).
HOW TO ENTER First you'll need to register with YouTube.com to
open your account. Upload your video clips taken at any of
our dive destinations (SOCORRO, GUADALUPE, or SEA OF CORTEZ.
Be sure to include the name SOLMAR V and the name
of the destination in
the video title and somewhere in the description. Send
us the Public URL of the movie (for example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4FmcicbA5U)
along
with your name and email address using this
email address. We will add links to all the entries
on this page as we receive them. The public will vote on
their favorites.
The author of the winning video will
win
a FREE TRIP aboard to Solmar V to the Socorro
Islands
One prize will be awarded
CONTEST RULES - PLEASE READ
- This contest runs through 2008. The
one video clip with the highest YouTube ratings by Dec.
31, 2008 will be the winner. This year we will not judge
on the number of stars your video receives, but on 1) how
many links you have
to your
video
and 2) how
many people have viewed your video. We will also consider
the number of times a video clip is favored, honored, and
the number of comments. The more websites that link to
your video clip and the longer your video clip is online,
the
more potential ratings you will receive. SO ENTER
EARLY!
- It is not necessary to have been aboard
the Solmar V when your video was shot or pictures were
taken. If
you were on another boat, you can still enter. It would
be a very good idea not to include pictures of the other
boat in your video.
- Your video must be uploaded after April
15, 2008. Videos uploaded before this date are not eligible.
- You must include the name SOLMAR V and
the name of the destination in the video title so it can
be found in a search on YouTube. A good description and
the addition of keywords will also help.
- You must respect copyright. If you add
music you must have permission to use it or use royalty
free or stock audio. The video in your entry must be your
own creation but you may use other people's video clips
or photos (preferrably historic) provided you have permission,
and you give them photo credit.
- You may enter up to three video clips,
but each clip must be at least two minutes long to qualify
for this contest. Try to keep it under five minutes.
- Still image slide shows are also eligible.
- Each YouTube.com registered account
is allowed to vote only once per movie.
- You are responsible for all technical
aspects of the production and uploading of the video clips.
Don't ask us for help.
NOT A VIDEOGRAPHER?
No problem! You can create a YouTube.com
movie using stills in a slide show and still quality for
this prize. Here
is an example (this is a demo and is not included in
this competition). You may also use animation or illustration!
So you can win, even if you've never been there. This contest
is about being creative enough to win the hearts of the voting
public!

received your link. Winners will be contacted by phone
and/or email. Winning entries will be posted here. Winner
agrees to grant Solmar V the right to use the winning
video for the promotion of Solmar V.
